According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Trump told state television Friday night, “We will under no circumstances back down from our ten conditions in the short negotiations over a maritime blockade, but [Donald] Trump wants to become the police of the strait of Hormuz.”
In response to Iran’s nearly complete shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the conflict, the US imposed an embargo on ships utilizing Iranian ports in the Gulf on Monday night. During the first 48 hours of the blockade, the US Central Command (Centcom) claimed to have stopped 10 ships from leaving Iranian ports. However, ship monitoring data showed that at least three ships from Iranian ports reached the Strait of Hormuz, albeit some of them eventually turned back.
